Qype: Blenheim Palace in Woodstock

Woodstock - Arts & Entertainment - Parks

By pure chance we decided to include this world heritage site in our Oxford long weekend and although it is rather impressive both by its size and extensive gardens, I'm sure I could have found more joy for the £16 entrance fee. It didn't help that the weather was atrocious and most of the splendor is outdoors.

Blenheim Palace is home to the 11th Duke of Marlobourough and birth place of Sir Winston Churchill. Perhaps the most fascinating thing I learned from the trip was Churchill's penchance for painting and that two of his Christmas cards are still sold by Hallmark today.

Great for those wanting to know more about English history, big Palace buffs or botanists who would squeal with delight at the thought of 2100 acres of parks, water and forests. Otherwise rather dull so give it a miss.
